Snorkeling in Tenerife – The best way to discover the marine life of the island.
Tenerife has a very rich marine life, and it is often possible to spot dolphins, whales and turtles. Being a true lover of the sea, I didn’t want to miss one of these experiences.
I contacted Club Canary because I wanted to snorkel with turtles in Tenerife, and I saw that activity on their website. They also have lots of other activities, such as Tenerife boat trips, diving, and many other water sports.
Half an hour before the start of the activity my friends and I went to the meeting point, in Los Cristianos. When we arrived, a member of the Vibe Dive team welcomed us, and we put on our wetsuits. We then headed to the harbor, where the instructor was waiting for us on the boat.
We received all the necessary instructions for the activity to go as smoothly as possible, and then we took the boat to the dive site. All the snorkeling equipment was also lent by Vibe Dive.
The activity lasts about 50 minutes. During that time, the instructor is always with us in the water to help us and show us the most interesting places and species. In addition, he takes pictures and films us throughout the activity, so that we have a souvenir of the experience.
This was my first time snorkeling, although I had been diving before. As I did with scuba diving, I found the first few minutes underwater a little scary, both because of the breathing and the view one has of the depth of the ocean. However, this is perfectly normal and happens to most people. After a short time I was already comfortable, and from then on the peace one feels in the water is inexplicable.
Unfortunately, the swell was very strong on this day, so it was impossible to find any turtles. Even so, being able to swim in the middle of super colorful fish of different sizes was a unique experience that I will never forget.
In the end, we returned to the boat to go to the port, and on the way, the captain stopped so we could see some dolphins in the distance. Even though we couldn’t see the turtles, here are some photos of them took on a different day, with a weaker swell. How cute?!
