Augusta Eco Wellness Resort – Hotel Review

Augusta Eco Wellness Resort – Hotel Review

At the end of July, I started a week-long road trip to discover the most beautiful places in Galicia. During this trip, I passed through Sanxenxo, in the province of Pontevedra. It was here that I had the opportunity to stay at the Augusta Eco Wellness Resort. This resort has a totally unique concept, different from any hotel I’ve ever stayed in, and overlooking the Rías Baixas.

Augusta focuses mainly on providing a holistic wellness journey, encompassing body, mind and spirit. And how is this achieved? A symbiosis of different things: one of the best spas in Galicia, the focus on healthy and conscious eating, and several workshops and activities linked to well-being, for adults and children.

On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the reception staff, who explained everything about the hotel’s facilities and activities. Augusta is divided into two complexes, Augusta I and Augusta II, separated only by a road. Guests can travel between the two complexes using the complimentary Smart cars, so they can enjoy both spas, for example. The hotel is pet-friendly, so you can bring your four-legged or two-legged companion.

After checking in, we went to see our room in the Augusta I. Perfectly decorated, it actually felt like home. The balcony had a beautiful view of the Pontevedra estuary. I’d also like to point out that the room had a mini-bar, towels, a bathrobe and slippers suitable to use in the spa, as well as bath products that had been carefully chosen in line with the hotel’s sustainable philosophy.

Next, we went to see the hotel’s facilities. We passed by the restaurant and snack bar, the spa and gym, the Pet Hotel, and ended up in the hotel’s vegetable garden, which is huge! The amazing thing is that much of the food produced there is used in the restaurant, and guests can be part of the whole process! Many of the plants grown there are also used in cosmetic products, such as scrubs or lip balms. I ended up taking home some of these products and I loved them! We also met some of the hotel’s inhabitants: chickens and peacocks who roam freely around the garden and help to look after it.

Finally, we went to the Dome, which serves as a refuge and a place to reconnect with ourselves. This is where meditation and sound healing workshops and yoga classes are held, for example.

Of course, next, we had to go and try out the Sivana Holistic Spa! It’s so complete that it includes an outdoor spa that’s also suitable for children – the Caribbean Chill Spa – and another for adults only. In total, there are more than 130 treatments, 8 heated pools, 9 jacuzzis and much more.

We started in the outdoor spa where we could enjoy an excellent sunny day with some climatized baths, jets and chromotherapy. Next, we went to the indoor area, where there is a heated swimming pool with various jets and beds. Then we went to the adults-only area, a beautiful and very relaxing room with another heated pool and jacuzzi. We finished in the Turkish bath area, equipped with showers.

After such a relaxing afternoon, we got ready to try a delicious dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, Potus. Before leaving the room we were surprised by the Augusta team, who left us a bottle of champagne and a delicious fruit platter! We were truly welcomed here!

At the Potus restaurant we went for the Sanivoros tasting menu, which is based on conscious eating and uses lots of products from the garden or supplied by local producers. Everything was truly delicious, it was an incredible experience!

In the morning we went to the buffet breakfast, where we were able to try some more products made from ingredients produced in the garden.

The rest of the morning was spent taking part in a workshop organised by the hotel: “Sanivoros Breakfast”. We learnt how to make avocado toast and chia pudding, which we ate at the end of the workshop and found very good. As this workshop is based on conscious and healthy eating, we learnt a number of interesting facts and the properties of each of the ingredients we used, some of which we had never tried before. It was a very positive and informative experience, totally focused on the well-being through food.

Augusta has daily classes and workshops with various themes focussed on well-being, such as Mindfulness, Sound Healing, Alchemy of Light, various types of meditation and yoga, Healthy Skin, talks on emotions and anxiety and many more activities that I’ve never found in any other hotel. There are also lots of other activities for children, such as visits to the vegetable garden and harvesting, feeding the animals, painting mandalas, watercolouring, reiki for children, crafts, aromatherapy, various games and cinema.

Unfortunately, it was time to check-out, but the experience couldn’t have been more positive. Indeed, Augusta is a pioneering resort in providing a holistic wellness approach. I felt super relaxed and welcomed during my stay, and I learned a lot! If this is the kind of holiday you’re looking for, whether it’s to relax or even to reconnect with yourself, this is undoubtedly the ideal place. Furthermore, Galicia is beautiful and it’s well worth visiting (more on that in a future blog post). We said goodbye to the staff after a few hours of chatting, and not even then I stopped being spoiled, as they were kind enough to gift me some of the food and cosmetic products made at the hotel.
